I'm still behind on the news. But I'm still angry about THIS news.
Trump officials consider shrinking 6 national monuments in the WestInterior Department officials are considering scaling back the boundaries of national monuments in the West to encourage energy development on public lands.
"Interior Department aides are looking at whether to scale back at least six national monuments, these individuals said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because no final decisions had been made. The list, they added, includes Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni-Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon, Ironwood Forest, Chuckwalla, Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante — national monuments spread across Arizona, California, New Mexico and Utah."
"The draft strategic plan, first reported by the news outlet Public Domain, spells out the Interior Department’s priorities through 2030. They include increasing fossil fuel production, opening lands in Alaska and elsewhere to mineral extraction, reducing grazing costs and trying to “release” federal holdings for housing development."Why not preserve our natural heritage? Is that too much to ask?
For this administration, it obviously is.
"Yeah, let's enhance this landscape with some drill rigs and some townhomes." (Organ Mountains - Desert Peaks National Monument)
